Lebanon hopes to repatriate Syrian refugees within months

Lebanon plans to start sending back tens of thousands of Syrian refugees within months over objections by the United Nations and rights groups, a minister said in an interview Wednesday.

Lebanon has one of the world’s highest numbers of refugees per capita and currently hosts over 1 million Syrians who fled the decade-old conflict. Officials say the influx has cost Lebanon billions of dollars and further damaged its crippled infrastructure while it struggles with a financial meltdown.

수요일 레바논의 장관은 유엔과 인권단체들의 반발로 수개월 내에 시리아 난민 수만명을 돌려보내기 시작할 계획이라고 인터뷰에서 밝혔다.

레바논은 1인당 난민 수가 세계에서 가장 많은 나라 중 하나이며 현재 10년 동안 지속된 분쟁에서 탈출한 100만 명 이상의 시리아인들을 수용하고 있다. 관리들은 레바논이 금융 붕괴로 어려움을 겪고 있는 동안, 레바논은 수십억 달러의 손실을 입었으며, 파괴된 기반 시설을 더욱 손상시켰다고 말한다.
