사우디 아라비아, 이집트 중앙은행에 50억 달러 예치

사우디아라비아는 경제 압박이 가중되고 있는 이집트에 50억달러 규모의 구제금융을 발표했다. 이는 부분적으로 러시아의 우크라이나 전쟁에 따른 경제적 영향 때문이다.

국영 사우디 통신은 이집트 중앙은행에 예치된 자금이 아랍 세계에서 가장 인구가 많은 나라인 이집트를 지원하기 위한 사우디 아라비아의 끊임없는 노력의 일환이라고 밝혔다. 이 돈은 2월 말까지 약 410억 달러에 달했던 이집트의 외환보유고에 추가될 것이며, 주요 수입과 하락하는 국가 통화를 지탱하는 데 도움을 줄 것으로 보인다. 

Saudi Arabia says it deposited $5B in Egypt’s central bank

Saudi Arabia on Wednesday announced a $5 billion aid package to cash-strapped Egypt, where the economy is under mounting pressure, in part because of the economic fallout from Russia’s war on Ukraine.

The state-run Saudi Press Agency said the funds, deposited in Egypt’s Central Bank, are part of Saudi Arabia’s “tireless efforts” to support Egypt, the Arab World’s most populous country. The money will be added to Egypt’s foreign reserves, which stood at around $41 billion by the end of February, and help with critical imports and propping up the sliding national currency.
