바이든-푸틴 정상회담 논의됐지만 우크라이나 전쟁에 대한 두려움은 여전

미국과 러시아 대통령이 러시아의 우크라이나 침공 가능성을 막기 위해 마지막 회담을 갖기로 잠정 합의했다. 서방 강대국들이 우크라이나 동부지역에서 대규모 전쟁을 촉발시킬 수 있다고 우려하는 가운데 포격은 계속되고 있다.

미국의 경고대로 러시아가 침공하면 회담은 취소된다. 그럼에도 불구하고 대면 정상회담의 전망이 나오고 있다. 이러한 전망은 러시아 에너지에 크게 의존하고 있는 유럽에 막대한 사상자와 막대한 경제적 피해를 초래할 파괴적인 충돌을 막을 수 있다는 희망을 되살렸다.

The U.S. and Russian presidents tentatively agreed to meet in a last-ditch effort to stave off a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine, even as sustained shelling continued Monday in a conflict in eastern Ukraine that Western powers fear could provide the spark for a broader war.

If Russia invades, as the U.S. warns Moscow has already decided to do, the meeting will be off. Still the prospect of a face-to-face summit resuscitated hopes that diplomacy could prevent a devastating conflict, which would result in massive casualties and huge economic damage in Europe, which is heavily dependent on Russian energy.
