국제 법원, 케냐와 해상 분쟁 중인 소말리아 지지

국제사법재판소는 석유와 가스가 풍부할 가능성이 있는 영해에 영향을 미치는 사건에 대해 인접국인 케냐와 해상 경계선을 놓고 분쟁에서 소말리아 편을 들었다.

화요일 유엔 최고 법원의 판결은 비록 법원이 집행권을 가지고 있지는 않지만 법적 구속력이 있는 가운데, 법원은 케냐가 해상 경계선을 일관되게 유지하지 않았다며 케냐의 해상 경계선 주장을 기각했다. 대신에 경계선은 소말리아의 국경에서 인도양으로 직진하자는 주장에 더 가까워졌다. 

International court backs Somalia in sea dispute with Kenya

The International Court of Justice has sided with Somalia in its dispute with neighboring Kenya over a maritime boundary in a case affecting a territory potentially rich in oil and gas.

The ruling on Tuesday by the United Nations’ highest court is legally binding, though the court has no enforcement powers. The court rejected Kenya’s claim of the maritime boundary it sought, saying Kenya had not consistently maintained it. Instead, it leaned closer to Somalia’s claim of a straight line into the Indian Ocean from their border.
