France sends patrol boats as fishing tensions flare with UK

Vessels from Britain’s Royal Navy and French police boats patrolled Thursday near the English Channel island of Jersey, where French fishermen angry about losing access to waters off their coast gathered for a maritime protest.

The irate mariners set off flares and entered the island’s main harbor, in the first major dispute between France and Britain over fishing rights in the wake of Brexit. 

프랑스와 영국, 조업권 두고 긴장 고조

영국 왕립 해군과 프랑스 경찰선의 선박들이 목요일 영국령 채널 섬 저지 부근에서 순찰을 돌고 있는 가운데 이 섬에서 프랑스 어부들이 해상 시위를 벌이기 위해 모여들었다.

브렉시트를 계기로 프랑스와 영국이 조업권을 놓고 벌인 첫 주요 분쟁에서 이들 선박은 불길을 터뜨리고 섬 본항에 입항했다.
