Russian military recruiter shot amid fear of Ukraine call-up

A young man shot a Russian military officer at close range at an enlistment office Monday, in an unusually bold attack reflecting resistance to the Russian leadership’s efforts to mobilize hundreds of thousands of men to wage war on Ukraine.

The shooting comes after scattered arson attacks on enlistment offices and protests in Russian cities against the call-up that have resulted in at least 2,000 arrests. Russia is seeking to bolster its military as its Ukraine offensive has bogged down and sapped its forces.

월요일 러시아의 한 청년이 입대 사무소에서 러시아군 장교를 근거리에서 총으로 쐈는데, 이는 우크라이나와의 전쟁에 수십만 명의 병력을 동원하려는 러시아 지도부에 대한 저항을 반영하는 이례적인 사건이었다.

이번 총기 난사 사건은 입대 사무소에 대한 산발적인 방화 공격과 러시아 도시에서의 부분 동원령에 대한 항의 시위가 최소 2,000명의 체포를 야기한 데 따른 것이다. 러시아는 우크라이나 공세가 수렁에 빠져 병력이 모자람에 따라 군사력 증강을 모색하고 있다.
