African soccer launches super league amid big financial loss

A new 24-club super league that aims to revolutionize soccer in Africa and become its richest competition was launched by Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe on Wednesday, just hours after his organization reported a loss of nearly $50 million for last year.

Motsepe said at CAF’s general assembly meeting in Arusha, Tanzania, that the CAF Africa Super League would offer total prize money of $100 million, over five times more than Africa’s current Champions League.

파트리스 모체프 아프리카축구연맹(AFC) 회장이 지난해 5천만 달러의 적자를 보고한 지 불과 몇 시간 만에 24개 클럽으로 구성된 슈퍼리그가 출범했다.

모체프는 탄자니아 아루샤에서 열린 CAF 총회에서 CAF 아프리카 슈퍼리그가 현재 아프리카 챔피언스리그보다 5배 이상 많은 총상금 1억 달러를 제시할 것이라고 밝혔다.
