러시아가 전쟁을 시작했을 때 헝가리는 우크라이나를 탈출하는 수만 명의 난민들에게 국경을 개방했다. 다른 난민들은 세르비아의 한 들판에 아무런 도움도 없이 남겨졌다. 

3년간 헝가리에서 공부한 하시브 카리자다는 지난해 8월 고국인 아프가니스탄이 혼란에 빠진 뒤 망명을 신청했다. 그러나 헝가리 당국은 6개월 전 카리자다를 국경을 넘어 이웃 세르비아로 급히 보내 알지도 못하는 나라로 쫓아낸 바 있다.

When Russia launched its war, Hungary opened its borders for the tens of thousands of refugees escaping Ukraine. Other refugees have been left with no help in a field in Serbia.

After studying in Hungary for three years, Hasib Qarizada sought asylum there after his native Afghanistan unraveled in chaos last August. But rather than receiving refuge, Hungarian authorities whisked Qarizada over the border six months ago into neighboring Serbia, kicking him out into a country he didn’t even know.
