Walmart aims to empower workers with own devices, new app

Walmart is coming out with a new app for its store workers’ phones that allows them to do a variety of tasks from digitally clocking into work to helping locate merchandise and answering customers’ questions.

It also has a push-to-talk feature to let them communicate directly with colleagues.

As part of the launch, the nation’s largest private employer and largest retailer says it plans to offer more than 740,000 store workers a new Samsung smartphone for free by year-end. That’s nearly half of its total U.S. workforce, according to Drew Holler, senior vice president of people operations.

월마트는 출근을 체크하는 것에서부터 상품을 찾아내고 고객의 질문에 답하는 것까지 다양한 작업을 할 수 있는 새로운 앱을 출시했다.

또한, 이 앱에는 동료와 직접 소통할 수 있는 푸시 투 토크 기능도 있다.

새로운 앱 출시의 일환으로, 최대 개인 고용주이자 최대 소매업체인 월마트는 연말까지 74만 명 이상의 점포 직원들에게 새 삼성 스마트폰을 무료로 제공할 계획이라고 밝혔다. 드류 홀러 인력 사업부 수석 부사장은 이는 미국 전체 노동력의 거의 절반에 달한다고 밝혔다.
