Biden to meet Putin for Geneva summit amid US-Russia tension

President Joe Biden will hold a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin next month in Geneva, a face-to-face meeting between the two leaders that comes amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Russia in the first months of the Biden administration.

The White House confirmed details of the summit on Tuesday. The two leaders’ meeting, set for June 16, is being tacked on to the end of Biden’s first international trip as president next month when he visits Britain for a meeting of Group of Seven leaders and Brussels for the NATO summit.

조 바이든 대통령은 다음달 제네바에서 블라디미르 푸틴 러시아 대통령과 정상회담을 한다. 바이든 행정부 출범 후 미·러 간 긴장이 고조되는 가운데 이뤄지는 두 정상의 대면이다. 

화요일 백악관은 정상회담의 세부 사항을 확인했다. 오는 6월 16일로 예정된 정상회담은 바이든 대통령이 7개국 정상회의를 위해 영국을 방문하고 나토 정상회담을 위해 브뤼셀을 방문하는 다음달 대통령으로서 첫 국제 순방의 막바지에 예정됐다.
