Spain, Morocco turn focus to young migrants stuck at border

With border crossings of migrants apparently under control, Spain and Morocco turned their attention Thursday to the plight of hundreds of teenagers and children stranded on both sides of their frontier amid one of the biggest diplomatic spats between the two countries in recent years.

In Ceuta, the Spanish enclave on the northern African coast at the center of the dispute, hundreds of unaccompanied minors were crammed into charity-run warehouses for a 10-day compulsory coronavirus quarantine under police watch. Some climbed onto the buildings’ roofs to escape.

목요일 스페인과 모로코는 이민자들의 국경을 넘나드는 일이 확실히 통제되고 있는 가운데 최근 몇 년간 양국간의 가장 큰 외교적 분쟁 중 하나로 인해 국경지대의 양쪽에 고립된 수백 명의 청소년들과 어린이들의 곤경에 관심을 돌렸다.

분쟁의 중심에 있는 북부 아프리카 해안의 스페인 거주지역인 세우타에서는, 수백 명의 미성년자들이 경찰의 감시 하에 열흘간의 강제 코로나 바이러스 방역을 위해 자선 사업 창고에 격리되었다. 일부는 탈출하기 위해 건물 지붕 위로 올라갔다.
