Japan to end virus state of emergency in Tokyo

Japan says it will end a state of emergency in the Tokyo area set up to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

That’s despite concerns of a resurgence ahead of spring and next week’s Olympic torch relay. Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga says the emergency will end Sunday. The decision underscores the government’s eagerness keep the economy going. However, some experts warned that although Tokyo has managed to bring down the rate of new infections, the decline has leveled off and could rebound.

일본, 도쿄 바이러스 비상사태 종료 선언

일본은 코로나 바이러스의 확산을 막기 위해 마련된 도쿄 지역의 비상사태를 종료시킬 것이라고 밝혔다.

다음 주 올림픽 성화 봉송을 앞두고 바이러스가 재유행할 것이라는 우려에도 불구하고 스가 요시히데 일본 총리는 비상사태가 일요일 끝날 것이라고 밝혔다. 그러한 결정에는 정부가 경제 상황을 개선하려하고 있다는 것을 보여준 것으로 보인다. 그러나 일부 전문가들은 일본 정부가 감염률을 낮추기는 했지만 확진자 감소세가 낮아져 감염률이 반등할 수 있다고 경고했다.
