Syria temporarily cuts supplies of fuel to meet shortages

Syria’s petroleum ministry on Sunday blamed U.S. sanctions for forcing it to cut by up to 24% its distribution of fuel and diesel because of delays in arrival of needed supplies.

The war-ravaged nation already is facing a severe economic crisis that has caused major shortages in wheat and fuel products. Long lines have formed outside of gas stations and bakeries as the government rationed what it has, further deepening the crunch felt by Syrians.

시리아 석유부는 지난 일요일 필요한 물자의 도착 지연으로 인해 연료와 디젤의 배급을 최대 24%까지 줄이도록 강요한 미국의 제재조치를 비난했다.

전쟁으로 피폐해진 시리아는 이미 밀과 연료 제품의 심각한 부족을 초래한 경제 위기에 직면하고 있다. 정부가 가진 것을 배급하면서 주유소와 제과점 밖에는 긴 줄이 늘어섰고 시리아인들이 느끼는 위기감은 더욱 깊어지고 있다.
