Mali soldiers detain senior officers in apparent mutiny

Soldiers in Mali took up arms in the garrison town of Kati on Tuesday and detained senior military officers in an apparent mutiny, raising fears of a potential coup after several months of anti-government demonstrations calling for the president’s resignation.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the latest turmoil to wrack Mali, but the unrest erupted at the very same military barracks where the country’s 2012 coup originated.

In the nearby capital of Bamako, government workers fled their offices as armed men began detaining officials including the country’s finance minister Abdoulaye Daffe.

말리의 군인들은 화요일 카티 주둔지에서 무기를 들고 명백한 폭동을 통해 군 고위 장교들을 억류하고 있어 수개월 동안 대통령의 퇴진을 요구하는 반정부 시위가 있은 후 쿠데타가 일어날지도 모른다는 우려를 낳고 있다.

말리를 뒤엎은 이 혼돈의 배후가 누구인지는 즉각 밝혀지지 않았지만, 이 사태는 2012년 말리의 쿠데타가 시작된 바로 그 군 막사에서 일어났다.

인근 수도 바마코에서는 무장 괴한들이 압둘라예 다페 재무장관을 비롯한 관리들을 억류하기 시작하자 사무실에서 대피하는 공무원들이 줄을 이었다.
